Let’s Celebrate the Re-Opening to Carlisle

Many of you will be aware that Network Rail are working hard to complete repairs at Eden Brows and that it is planned to re-open the line through to Carlisle on 31 March 2017.

To make sure that everything is in place for 31 March, it is likely that for a week or so before re-opening, it will be necessary to undertake final testing and other procedures.  Consequently, it is understood that for these few days, trains will operate Appleby to/from Leeds.  Buses will connect Appleby to/from Carlisle and intermediate stations.

As soon as more details are available, this item will be updated

To celebrate the re-opening, Flying Scotsman is returning the route with a special excursion from Oxenhope to Carlisle on 31 March.  More details on KWVR’s website.

In the meantime. Northern’s service is still fully operational with trains running between Leeds and Armathwaite and buses for the final short hop to Carlisle.

We do not yet have the timetable for train services when the line is fully operational again to Carlisle but as soon as we get details, we will publish them on this website.

We will be working hard to spread this news and encourage locals and visitors back on to the line and to the region.  Our new promotional leaflet is currently being distributed around the north of England and you can also view it here.

Keep an eye on this website or on our facebook and twitter for updates on the re-opening and special events throughout 2017.

As a prelude to re-opening of the line between Carlisle and Armathwaite, you can attend a film show at Skipton, Settle or Appleby. Featuring over two hours of archive films of the Settle-Carlisle Railway and footage of the repairs at Eden Brows.

7pm on 18 March – St John’s Church, Settle

4pm on 19 March – Market Hall, Appleby

7pm on 21 March – Herriots Hotel, Skipton (please note: change of date)

Tickets for these events cost £5 per person (£2 for under 16’s) and available from Kingfisher Productions

The recent initiative by train operator, Northern, to use Tornado to haul services between Appleby to/from Skipton was a huge success.  Currently, we are unaware of any plans to repeat this opportunity.
