>Settle station was opened in 1876 and has one of the large Derby Gothic Style station buildings.

>This is one of the 3 stations which originally served Settle, the other two were Settle (Old) renamed Giggleswick in 1877 and Settle Junction which closed in 1877.

>The station forms part of what was formerly a much larger complex including a goods shed, weigh office, sidings, cattle dock, signal box and water tank. Goods facilities were withdrawn in 1970 but even today the water tank and Station Master's house, although now in private ownership, provide evidence of the station's past.

>A good view of the local landscape features can be observed from the station footbridge including; Giggleswick School's Chapel (the domed building to the west), Pen-y-ghent, original Midland Railway workers houses and the Town Hall which now houses the Tourist Information Centre.

Other information

The station is open 9.15am to 6.00pm Mondays to Saturdays and on Sundays between 09.30 and 6.00 pm where tickets for any destination can be purchased in person. The station only closes on Christmas and Boxing Day when there are no passenger services.

Within the station buildings there is a small shop operated by the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line selling a range of souvenirs of your journey.
