Train services now run as far north as Armathwaite.
An amended timetable has been introduced. Train times Leeds to/from Appleby are unaffected but there are revised timings for journeys Appleby to/from Armathwaite. Bus connections are in operation Carlisle to/from Armathwaite and Appleby.
Only one platform will be used for all trains at Armathwaite, Lazonby and Langwathby . Red advisory signs are displayed at these stations indicating that the platform normally used for journeys towards Leeds will NOT be in use
Other engineering work may result in changes to these timetables so you are advised to take check are revised timetables on the engineering works information. And remember you can buy the £15 Settle Carlisle day ranger ticket and get even better value for your hard earned money. Railcard discounts are available on the day ranger making the adult cost with a railcard only £9.90 You can buy the ranger from a staffed station or from the conductor on the train. This ticket is only valid for travel between Leeds (or Bradford Forster Square) and Carlisle via Appleby and Armathwaite. It does not permit travel on the Virgin or Trans Pennine trains on the West Coast Mainline or on the rail replacement buses between Appleby and Penrith. (Note: the 16-25 Railcard discount is not available on the ranger ticket for journeys starting between 0430 and 1000 hours Monday-Friday)
The Appleby-Penrith buses are only available for travel for those passengers with connections south from Penrith or north beyond Carlisle.
The new timetable commencing 11 December will be available on this website soon. You should be aware that buses connecting Penrith and Carlisle and Penrith and Appleby are to be withdrawn from this date. Until the timetable is available here, please check Northern’s website
Network Rail are continuing to work on the massive landslide at Eden Brows (just north of Armathwaite) and they have announced the line will fully reopen by the end of March 2017
