What is the Ride2Stride Festival?

The Ride2stride Festival, held annually in May, is firmly fixed as a regular feature in the Settle Carlisle Railway’s calendar.  It’s a week-long programme of walks, talks and music along the line, celebrating the amazing landscape and cultural heritage of the western Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria’s Eden Valley.

There’s always a whole host of events and activities to take part in and they take place along the length of the Settle Carlisle Railway.  Guided walks are led by experienced leaders, starting and finishing at stations on the line.  Guest speakers share their extensive local knowledge and passion for the area – and of course the local pubs are buzzing with music and song!

If you love this part of the world, you’ll love the Ride2stride Festival.  Events are open to everybody; whether you’re a local resident, visiting the area on holiday or coming by train to join one of the walks.

The 2017 festival, which took place last month, was judged unanimously to have been one of the best yet, with loads of variety and interest.  The weather was, on the whole, kind (aside from the odd flurry of sideways snow!!) and there was a fantastic turnout of people from far and wide.  In fact people travel from all parts of the UK, and beyond, to attend Ride2stride.

Spring in this part of the world is very special, with bluebells and wild garlic filling the woodland and the breath-taking displays of orchids in limestone scenery.  If you took part this year, you’ll already be looking forward to the next one.  And, if you haven’t been along before, why not join us next time?  Make a note of next year’s festival date now:

Tuesday 1st May through to Monday 7th May 2018.

Here’s a taste of what you can look forward to…
