Where Can I Buy a Dales Railcard?

Dales Railcards can be purchased at Appleby, Carlisle, Settle or Skipton Railway stations. You can also buy or renew your Dales Railcard in our online shop here. Please allow 7-10 days for delivery of the railcard when ordering through our website.

Am I Eligible for a Dales Railcard?

You can apply for a Dales Railcard if you live between:

  • Skipton and Carlisle on the Leeds – Settle – Appleby – Carlisle Line
  • Skipton and Carnforth on the Leeds – Morecambe Line
  • Carlisle and Brampton on the Tyne Valley Line
  • Clitheroe / Whalley on the Ribble Valley Line

And if your postcode is in one of the following areas:

  • CA 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17
  • DL 8, 11, 12
  • LA 2, 5, 6, 10
  • BD 23, 24
  • BB 7

Who Can Use My Dales Railcard?

Dales Railcards can only be used by the person named on the card. Improper use of the card my result in seizure of the card and/or prosecution.

How Long is the Dales Railcard Valid For?

Dales Railcards are valid for twelve months from the date of issue or commencement date. This expiry date is shown on the railcard.

You can apply up to one month in advance for a renewal Dales Railcard but please allow 7-10 days for delivery of the railcard when ordering through our website.

What are the Conditions of Use of the Railcard?

You must carry your Railcard with you on your journey and make it available for inspection by train company staff. If you fail to do so, the train operator, reserves the right to charge you the full price standard single fare for your journey or issue a penalty fare notice. The railcard is not transferable and can only be used by the person named on the card. Improper use of the railcard may result in seizure of the railcard or prosecution.

Are There Any Time Restrictions When Using the Dales Railcard?

No, you can get a discount with the Dales Railcard on all services in the eligible area of travel. The only exception is during the annual winter offer when the discounted special offer ticket may not be made available on some services.

Can I Use the Order Acknowledgement from Purchasing my Dales Railcard Online to get the Discount?

No. Your Dales Railcard will be posted to you- please allow 7-10 days for delivery of the railcard when ordering through our website. You must present your Dales Railcard when purchasing tickets and carry it with your when travelling.

Are There Any Additional Benefits?

There is an annual winter offer when a flat-are day return ticket is available at a reduced price. If you own a Dales Railcard you will be informed about special offers by post or email.

What About Children?

Up to four children (ages 5 to 15 inclusive) can travel with a Dales Railcard holder. The child fare is based on an 81% discount on the adult fare. There is a minimum child fare of £1. Children under the age of 16 cannot purchase a Dales Railcard.

What to Do if my Dales Railcard is Lost, Damaged or Stolen?

Northern, the train operator, does not undertake the replacement lost, stolen, defaced or damaged Dales Railcards or issue refunds on unused cards. The railcard should not be laminated or placed near any source of heat.

What Other Railcards are Available?

If you live outside the Dales Railcard, or regularly make journeys further afield, you could benefit from purchasing one of the national railcards. The following national railcards are available: 16-25, Two Together, Family & Friends, Senior and Disabled Persons Railcard. All of these will entitle you to 1/3rd off rail fares.
