If you’ve seen all the coverage of the Settle-Carlisle line on the national media this week and would like to travel in style behind a steam locomotive, there are more opportunities coming up.
The ‘Fellsman’ is an enduringly popular, scenic, steam-hauled journey over the Settle-Carlisle line. Following 2016’s landslide, the closure of the line put an abrupt halt to these well-loved excursions but Statesman Rail will be operating them again in summer 2017.
The trains are steam-hauled throughout and the locomotives are chosen from the historic pool of engines based at Carnforth including: LMS Royal Scot 46115 ‘Scots Guardsman’, LMS Jubilee 5690 ‘Leander’, LMS Stanier Black Five 44932 and LMS Jubilee 45699 ‘Galatea’.
To celebrate the full re-opening of the line on 31st March – and the long-awaited return of steam – we are giving away four First Class tickets for the Fellsman on Tuesday 25th July! The excursion will depart from Lancaster and call at Preston, Blackburn, Clitheroe and Long Preston to take on passengers.
The winners will enjoy the stunning vistas offered by the Settle-Carlisle railway from the comfort of the First Class carriage, which benefits from additional legroom, wide cushioned seats, curtains and large picture windows. A complimentary service of tea/coffee and biscuits is included in the price and a buffet bar is available throughout most of the journey for the purchase of hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, snacks and alcoholic drinks. (The usual price for these tickets would be £480).
To enter the competition, just visit our Facebook page now (@setcarrailway). Taking part is really simple. Entries close on Sunday 2nd April and the lucky winner will be drawn at random on Tuesday 4th April.
